Port Console Switch
Router and Switch communications question HELP PLEASE?
So i have this problem. If i want to configure my router i plug the console cable going from my laptop to the console port behind the router right? Same thing for the switch. So if i want to stop configuring my router and begin to configure my switch i unplug the console cable from behind my router and into the console port on the switch. Well what if i have something like an old military stack where one console port can configure both router and switch. Is there a commend i can type in to switch between router and switch on that console port. Help would be GREATLY appreciated! If anyone knows the commands or anything that can allow me to switch between router and switch on that console port i would appreciate it HIGHLY if you can tell me. Thanks!
It would help if we knew what make and model of switch and router you're talking about here.
Furthermore, small switches require no configuration at all - just plug them in and that's it. The only time you would need to configure a switch is IF you're using one of those large industrial network switches that supports things like port-by-port network speed, fixed subnetting, and other advanced features.
Since you're talking about a console cable, I'm guessing these aren't the type of router or switch you can buy from Best Buy...in which case you're going to have to download the manual from the manufacturer's website.
