Do computers w/ HDMI port send audio thru HDMI with video?Can TV send audio from HDMI to Reciever using SPDIF?
Just wondering. If I connect a HDMI device, with audio, to a TV, and the TV is connected to a sound system through SPD/IF, will the audio transfer from device to sound system? I am wondering because I am thinking of purchasing a surround sound system that has only one digital input. My TV has 3 HDMI's. I just want to use system for TV viewing through SPDIF, but am wondering if it's possible to take advantage of the given HDMI ports as a method of switching devices. And I'm thinking of getting a new desktop, and am wondering if HDMI output is worth getting for me.
I am planning to use TV as living room monitor for movies.
HDMI is both video and optical through the one cable, so it should work like you want. As far as the computer with HDMI, probably not, unless you plan on using your tv as the monitor or as a second monitor.
